Now that the draft is done I thought I would take a list of all the scouting reports I posted in the live threads and some little bits of info I was able to find out about the Day 3 guys I didn't know much about at the time. I have labeled other potential positions for guys after their name and I have put a double asterisk in front of the players who have already signed.
1-Kolby Allard, LHP, California HS
Had a stress reaction in his back this spring and isn’t throwing again before the draft. A little under-sized but by far the best prep arm in the class. Fastball hits 96, plus curve and a feel for the strike zone. Would have been in the mix for the top overall pick if he wasn't hurt and he was still #6 on my own board despite the injury. Front of the rotation potential.
1s-Mike Soroka, RHP Canadian HS
Big, very Projectable pitcher. Three pitch mix including potential plus curve that froze Russell Martin this spring in a spring training exhibition game. Feel for change and it could develop to average in time. Middle of the rotation starter, but may not be done growing yet so more potential in there. Cal commit. Has looked very strong in some Team Canada Jr games against MLB teams and DSL teams.
1c-Austin Riley, 3B, Mississippi HS(RHP)
Not the most athletic but big power. Also hits 95 on the mound and that’s an option. Has the arm for third but because he lacks athleticism, he may need to move to 1B at some point. Improved his body in the last year, increasing the chances he stays at third. Likely a college guy at Mississippi State as two way player. Will not be an easy sign unless he goes early.
2-Lucas Herbert, California HS
Kolby Allard’s catcher. UCLA commit. Top prep catcher in terms of defense. Already calls his own game. Good glove but bat needs to make progress- him getting stronger will help. He does have a nice swing and some power.
2c-AJ Minter, LHP, Texas A&M
Injuries hurt his first two years but good out of pen for Team USA last spring and some strong starts for A&M before TJS this spring. Sits at 95 and hits 97. Cutter in low 90s with hard break. Change is very early stage. Two solid pitches and could really develop if his command is refined. He has everything needed to start, but with injury concerns he is also a potential late inning reliever. If not for the injury he had a chance to go in the first round after four very good starts at the beginning of the season.
3-Anthony Guardado, California HS RHP
Pop up guy with less of a baseball background due to being HS QB. Very under scouted because of limited time playing but major helium this spring. Throws 94 with a potential out pitch slider that is already at least above average today. Barely uses the change and also throws a curve. More of a thrower than pitcher at the moment due to background. Injured early in spring and returned but saw stuff take a step back from what it was when he caught scouts attention. Aggressive on the mound. Could really take off as he finally goes full time to baseball.
4-Josh Graham, Oregon, RHP
Ex catcher is only 6’0. Converted catcher since he got to school. New to pitching but strong arm. Straight 96 fastball with solid average slider and a change that flashes plus. Was able to hit up to 96 even as a starter. Struck out almost 25% of hitters he faced this spring. He profiles as a late inning reliever like Jason Motte(seen Motte’s name more than once with him).
5-Ryan Clark, UNC Greensboro, RHP
More Projectable than typical college pitcher as he is 6’6 and 230. He’s a college starter and an arm strength guy. Athletic. He finally started tapping into some of that projection this spring with a nice step forward. Fastball hits 96(sits more 92-93) and a bit straight but does have sink, throws a curve but it could become an above average slider going forward. Command issues but they could be ironed out by refining delivery to make it more repeatable. Some deception in the delivery. Plenty of remaining projection. Power reliever at worst, as his stuff would play up in shorter stints, but he has the raw stuff to be a back of the rotation starter or more depending on projection.
6-Matt Withrow, Texas Tech, RHP
Chris Withrow’s brother. A 6’5 power pitcher with a similar skill set to Chris. Nice, easily repeatable delivery. Fastball hits 95 with real movement. Breaking ball has rotation and could be average but inconsistent now. Change is a question and not really used. Command and control below average, similar to his brother at this stage. Fresh arm as he didn’t pitch much in high school due to injuries there. Has some injury concerns in his career. Backend starter or reliever, but with the injury history and lack of an offspeed pitch he profiles as a reliever more. Injury history is worrisome as he has a screw in his elbow. Power reliever who could pitch in the 7th or 8th inning.
7-Patrick Weigel, Houston, RHP
Throws 100 with very good life and sink on it but sits 95-96. Works down in the zone and racks up grounders. Inconsistent release point and does lead to walks and command issues. Potentially average slider with the plus fastball. Curve is well below average. The fact he didn’t earn closer job in college raises concern. Does have a chance to start. More of a lottery ticket type as he has elite arm strength but would need to iron out the delivery to unlock his potential
8-Ryan Lawlor, Georgia, LHP
Georgia’s Friday starter with a track record of success in SEC. More pitchability lefty. Doesn’t have overwhelming stuff but feel for pitching and knows how to succeed. Fastball was up to 92 this year, but new velocity has come at the cost of command. Curve average now but if he drops slider for it he could change his projection. The change may be a tick above average. Gets swings and misses in college despite not great stuff. No true out pitch and smaller frame means he will be a reliever or back of rotation starter. Does have the ability to start though
9-Taylor Lewis, Florida, RHP
Pure reliever. Reliever with fastball slider combo that has had success for a top SEC program. Some arm strength and some pitchability. Sidearmer. Good run and sink on 95 MPH fastball that sits about 92. Slider is at least average and gets some swings and misses with it. Only 6’0 and 170 but gets hitters from both sides out despite just fringy change. Could move fast through the minors. One of the higher pure relievers on my list.
**10-Stephen Moore, RHP, Navy
Senior sign with a military commitment. Solid career for Navy and does it more with pitchability than stuff. Sits in the mid 80s but good command. Not really a prospect.
11-Grayson Jones, RHP, Alabama JC
Highly thought of last draft but didn’t sign and struggled this spring. Throws up to 97. Curve has average potential. Change is behind right now. More of a thrower than a pitcher right now and needs to harness command as he walked a ton of guys this year. Really a nice upside arm with the potential to be a quality starter if the offspeed offering comes and his command develops. Otherwise more of a late inning reliever. Committed to Auburn.
12-Justin Ellison, OF, Oklahoma JC
A power and speed combo guy. He put up huge numbers at Andrelton Simmons' JUCO school, but it's a very hitter friendly environment. Led D2 JUCO in total bases and runs and top 10 in OBP and slugging. Oklahoma State commit.
13-Chase Johnson-Mullins, LHP, Alabama JC
He's a crazy 6'9 and 270 pounds. Can top out at 95 with plus fastball when healthy but coming off TJS. Curve is also above average. All upside but hasn’t pitched much since high school and has moved around quite a bit as he has been at 3 schools including Kentucky. Has a basketball background. Good bloodlines as dad was a draft pick too.
14-Trey Keegan, C, Bowling Green
Good bat speed and excellent plate discipline but has a long swing. Athletic with above average arm. Needs to work on his receiving though. Old for class but some time away from the game. Kind of in the Gattis mold of taking time away from the game before college baseball.
**15-Brad Keller, OF, North Carolina HS
Good speed. Known more for his bat. Very little info on him available.
16-Trevor Belicek, LHP, Texas A&M Corpus Christi
Senior. Decent size at 6'3 and 210, and some projectability. Throws 91, good command. Good slider. Stuff ticked up this year to a huge jump in K/9 and 12th in country in that rate.
17-Evan Phillips, RHP, UNC Wilmington
Throws 95. Could have more potential but command issues. An arm strength guy with upside.
18-Gilbert Suarez, RHP, California HS
Took a step forward this spring and now throwing 94. Very strong senior season as he moved into ace role. Great human interest story on ESPN about him and his decently reported friend that was also drafted. San Diego State commit
**19-Sean McLaughlin, RHP, Georgia(OF)
Good velocity. Touches 95 but sits 93, decent curve and above average change. Short at just 5'11 but gets strikeouts. A two way guy in college.
**20-Jaret Hellinger, LHP, Georgia HS
Popup prospect with helium this spring. He’s still learning to pitch as he comes with a basketball background. Projectable, athletic body and a feel for pitching more advanced than expected. Throws three solid pitches that he throws for strikes. Throws 93 with life on it, curve needs more power to it but has depth, and very good feel for change. It’s a bonus that he already both sides of the plate. Good delivery. Very intriguing
21-Kurt Hoekstra, 2B, Western Michigan
Consistent hitter with a strong arm as he has the strength to hit over 90 on the mound. Split time as second and short in college and could play in the outfield. Decent speed. Very hard worker who broke out this year. More of a gap power guy than over the fence, but some room to fill out and add power.
**22-Dalton Geekie, RHP, Georgia JC
A 6'6 pitcher. Throws 90-93 and hits 95. Two way guy. Good makeup.
23-Taylor Cockrell, RHP, Florida JC
Came to JUCO after a year at Stetson and headed to D2 power Tampa. A 4.35 ERA at Stetson but 2.34 with 98 K in JUCO. Also a two way player. Listed by Kiley McDaniel in the 23 other Potential Pro Starters section in his rankings.
24-Jacob Lanning, 3B, Holy Cross College
Two way guy and 1st Team All Conference as a pitcher and as a hitter. Hit 6 homers this year.
25-Jonathan Morales, C, Florida JC
Limited power but good speed for a catcher as he stole quite a few bases. Also played middle infield at a few different positions.
26-Ben Libuda, LHP, Worcester State
Senior. He's 6'7 and 195. Decent fastball and improving slider. Threw 6 CG's and only 6 extra base hits in 47 IP.
27-Robbie Nesovic, RHP, UC Santa Barbara(3B)
Throws 90 with sink and at 6'4 210 has some projectability. Also a 3B. Better numbers as a hitter as he has been productive for three years as he has more of a resume there. Not much power but doesn't strike out much and can steal the occasional base at a good percentage. Decent on base skills.
28-Curtiss Pomeroy, RHP, Georgetown
Also a shortstop. Only converted to pitching middle of this season and has thrown just 5 innings but has potential to be a hard throwing reliever.
29-Collin Yelich, C, Sam Houston State
Christian Yelich's brother. Top 500 prospect out of high school but more of an org guy. Moved around between schools a lot. Was a reliable catcher but limited with the bat.
30-Doug Still, LHP, Missouri JC
Braves 33rd rounder from 2014 who had a decent first year in JUCO.
31-Matt Custred, RHP, Texas Tech
He's 6'6 and 240 with just 18 innings pitched but some eye popping ratios like 13.0 K/9 and 7.0 BB/9.
32-Dexter DJ Neal, OF, Georgia HS
South Carolina football commit. Plus speed and elite athleticism. Smooth swing and the raw power to profile well in a corner outfield spot. Tools are very raw due to football but could be signable at the right price. Also planning to play baseball at SC if not signed.
33-Terry Godwin, OF, Georgia HS
Elite Georgia football recruit. Toolsy player but extremely raw. Any kind of signing is as a part time player.
34-Carter Hall, SS, Georgia HS
Son of Georgia Tech manager Danny Hall and committed to play there. From comments it sounds like he's set on playing for his dad instead of signing.
35-Chase Smartt, C, Alabama HS
Son of new Troy manager and committed to play for his dad. Deaf but does have implants, which will make communication easier with pitching staff. Has some power potential. Sounds like he too is set on going to school.
36-Luis Lopez, 2B, Puerto Rico HS
Son of Braves infield coordinator. Couldn't find any info due to such a common name and the fact he was in Puerto Rico. Likely a favor to the family.
37-Jackson Webb, SS, Georgia HS
Nothing on this one.
38-Liam Scafariello, OF, Connecticut HS
Huge at 6’4 240, but fast twitch athletic ability and muscular build. Pull hitter at the moment. Power could be plus when he learns to go the other way and unlocks it. Runs well with average times. Below average arm. Still developing at the plate but is selective and understands how to work counts and wait for his pitches. Swing and miss a big part of his game right now. A UConn commit.
39-Jeremy Pena, SS, Rhode Island HS
Son of ex MLB player Geronimo Pena. Decent power. Smooth actions at short. Good speed. Rocket arm. Good makeup. Maine commit and strong academically. Sounds like a very solid prospect.
40-John Stewart, 3B, New York HS
Son of Braves scout. Couldn't find anything on him. Another guy with a very common name and family connection that is looking like a favor to the family.
