1B Freeman, 2B Peterson, SS Simmons, 3B Uribe, LF KJohnson, CF Maybin, RF Markakis, C AJP. These starting 8 position players are currently a combined 408 for 1411.
That comes out to an INCREDIBLE .289 average for the entire starting squad!
The Detroit Tigers have a lineup of 100% hitters… and their team batting average right now is only .275.
KEVIN SEITZER is a guru! Whatever he is teaching them… it is working VERY well.
I know we are all depressed about the state of our bullpen, but we have enough young arms in the organization to fix that problem from within. In other words, we don't need to trade any of these starting position players to gain arms, so the future for 2017 and the new stadium is bright indeed.
Granted… AJP is not going to make it that long… so we need to find a catcher that can hit his way out of a wet paper bag to replace Bethancourt… OR… we need to let the kid take over the position and get enough at bats to see if he can improve on his own.
But GOOD LORD… I don't think we have EVER had a starting 8 that hits for average as well as this one does.
