Soroka stays solid and Riley ravaged a pitch as Braves beat Cardinals, 4-0

All the excitement for Austin Riley entering the game was tampered somewhat after a second inning strikeout, but was quickly revived (and elevated) when the 22-year-old hit his first career homer in the fourth. The ball traveled 438 feet and left the bat at 109 MPH, which backs up the long-standing reports of Riley’s incredible raw power. On the mound, Mike Soroka was equally impressive, completing seven shutout innings while allowing three hits, walking three, and striking out three. Luke Jackson inherited two baserunners from Dan Winkler in the eighth, but quickly induced a double play and struck out the next batter to calm the storm. Charlie Culberson extended the Braves lead in the bottom half with a two-run homer left, giving Atlanta a 4-0 advantage. Jackson then worked a perfect ninth to close out the victory.

Profiling new Atlanta Braves 3B/OF Austin Riley ahead of his MLB debut

Our own Matt Powers gives an in-depth scouting report on the newest Braves addition, who quickly delivered on the promising power noted in the article.

Austin Riley brings a lot of power to the table. In fact, he may be the best true power hitter in the organization. This is a guy that can easily hit 25 to 30 homers in a season on a consistent basis. That’s a conservative projection as well, as he certainly has the raw power to do even more than that.

Riley almost misses call to big leagues, literally

Thank goodness for Kolby Allard.
