The Braves pounded out 16 hits to help capture a much-needed win over the Minnesota Twins. The two teams will square off again in the rubber match of the series on Wednesday.
When Dansby Swanson went on the injured list with a bruised heel the thinking was that he would be ready to return as soon as eligible. Well that didn’t turn out to be the case as Swanson continues to battle soreness in his heel. The Braves aren’t saying when he might return but haven’t ruled out the possibility of him rejoining the team in Miami over the weekend.
When Swanson does return, the Braves will have a decision to make in terms of who will be going to the minor leagues. At this point, it looks like the candidates are Austin Riley or Johan Camargo.
This year’s 2019 Players’ Weekend uniforms were revealed on Tuesday and they are quite different from what we have seen in the past.
Former Braves prospect Kolby Allard will make his 2019 season debut on Friday against the Milwaukee Brewers. Atlanta traded Allard to the Rangers at the trade deadline in exchange for reliever Chris Martin.
Once promising reliever Kyle Barraclough has been designated for assignment by the Washington Nationals. Washington acquired Barraclough from the Marlins last October. Barraclough has struggled in 2019 posting a 6.66 ERA in just 25 2/3 innings.
Mariners utility player Tim Beckham was hit with an 80-game suspension Tuesday after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance.
Finally, the San Francisco Giants designated second baseman Joe Panik for assignment on Tuesday. Panik has struggled this season and was expendable after the club acquired Scooter Gennett from the Reds at the deadline.
