Was looking at some stats today and noticed none of the Braves hitters have many at bats vs lefties. Adonis Garcia for example has a total of 14 PA's versus lefties this year.
On closer inspection Atlanta has the fewest AB's versus lefties in the MLB with 165. Colorado in contrast has 481. We've played fewer games than most teams but adjusted per game we also see the Braves are at an extreme.
Atlanta averages 30.5 AB's vs righties per game (highest in league) San Fran averages 21.
Atlanta averages 7.5 AB's vs lefties per game (lowest in the league). Colorado averages 16.
The stats I sorted didn't include walks but we're like 20th in the league in walks so if these numbers included PA's instead of ABs the numbers would likely get even more extreme.
Anyhow it seems as though each player is getting about 1/2 of an AB less against lefties per game than they should, or almost a full AB against lefties than they could. What's this mean assuming it evens out later in the season?
Well Freddie has about a 140 OPS lower against lefties so this may cool him a bit. It would definately not help Inciarte either. On the other hand, Kemp, Swanson and Garcia would benefit quite a bit from more lefties.
And this isn't changing soon as 10 of the next 11 scheduled starters against us are righties.
