The Braves have announced that Patrick Weigel has just been promoted to AAA Gwinnett after just 7 starts for Mississippi.

After being drafted in the 7th round in 2015, a strong 2016 campaign and a stellar start to his 2017 season has him already in Gwinnett. Weigel put up a 2.89 ERA, and 2.77 FIP in seven starts with a 9.16 K/9, and even more improved walk rate of 2.65 BB/9 all while dealing with a .300 BABIP.
For those unfamiliar with Weigel he had quite the college journey - starting first at Pacific of the BigWest where he had an 8.02 ERA, and 7.22 BB/9. From there he moved to Oxnard College of the West North where he had a 3.39 ERA, however his walk rate jumped up to 9.59 BB/9. He made the decision to transfer to the University of Houston where he worked with former MLB pitcher Brett Anderson’s father, Frank Anderson. A major mechanical change rocketed up Weigel draft stock where he was nabbed in the seventh round by Atlanta. From there he has shined for the organization putting up big strikeout numbers, along with continuing to lower his walk rate almost every year.
Weigel possesses a gifted fastball that hits triple digits when he wants, but most sits mid-to-high 90’s and has arm side run and late sink on it. He has also a “slider” that is more slurvy, along with a traditional curveball, and a developing changeup.
The Braves have just announced they have promoted OUTFIELDER Anfernee Seymour to High A+ Florida. Anfernee is enjoying his best season as a professional hitting .287/.345/.352 with 8 stolen bases in 11 chances. He has true 80 grade speed and since making the move to the outfield has severely reduced the errors. He will join a still gifted outfield in Florida that just lost Ronald Acuna to Mississippi.
