The Braves will option Mike Foltynewicz to Triple-A Gwinnett, according to MLB’s Mark Bowman.

The news comes after yet another frustrating night on the mound for Foltynewicz in which he surrendered eight runs on eight hits and two walks across 4+ innings. It was clear from the early going he was not right as the Nationals hit him hard throughout the evening.
Foltynewicz, who emerged as a frontline starter during the 2018 campaign, has never looked right in 2019 after missing a month earlier this spring with elbow discomfort. He owns a 6.37 ERA across 59 1⁄3 innings this year, and a 6.10 FIP and 5.15 xFIP suggest this is far more than just an unlucky stretch. His slider is barely moving — a pitch that led to his breakout a year ago- — and fastball command has been erratic.
Bowman said it is unclear who will make Foltynewicz’s next scheduled start against the Cubs on Thursday, although Bryse Wilson and Sean Newcomb seem like the two most obvious candidates.
