Gwinnett Stripers 2, Durham Bulls (Rays) 8
- Austin Riley, 3B: 0-4
- Adam Duvall, DH: 2-4, 2B, R
- Travis Demeritte, RF: 1-3, R, BB
- Andres Santiago, SP: 3.2 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 4 BB, 2 K
- Wes Parsons, RP: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
Well this wasn’t a fun game at all. The Stripers offense was next to non-existent for this game and in crucial situations the team went 0-for-9. Austin Riley’s six-game hitting streak came to an end as well. However, Adam Duvall continues to swing a hot stick collecting two hits including another double. This makes eight-straight games with at least one extra base hit for Duvall who raised his OPS to 1.115. Pedro Florimon had an extra rough night going 0-4 with three strikeouts.
Touki Toussaint was a late scratch so that meant Andres Santiago had to step up. Unfortunately, he had issues finding the strike zone and when he did the balls were flying all over the field. Wes Parsons allowed a couple runners to reach base, but got out of the inning without giving up a run.
Mississippi Braves 2, Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (Marlins) 1
- Drew Waters, LF: 2-4, R, K
- Cristian Pache, RF: 2-4, 2B
- Ray Patrick Didder, SS: 0-0, 2 BB, SF RBI
- Joey Wentz, SP: 7 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K
- Huascar Ynoa, RP: 2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3K
Joey Wentz had it going tonight where the change shined off of great fastball command. He was hitting his spots all night. He was even getting some swing and misses on the baseball despite the announcers several times he was hitting just 90 mph. Wentz carried a no-hitter into the seventh and allowed just two hitters to reach base. Huascar Ynoa was mostly featuring his fastball in his two innings of work and when you can sit 99 mph, it’s easy to see why. The good news is that he was out there throwing strikes. He did give up a couple of hits and a run, but he didn’t have a single two-ball count over two innings!
It’ll never get boring watching Drew Waters single in the first and Cristian Pache hitting a double. The problem is after those two. This happened in the first inning of the game and Waters only scored on a ground out. The other run was on a sacrifice fly by Ray-Patrick Didder. Pache and Waters combined four four of the team’s five hits. Tyler Neslony returned from the injured list and walked in his only plate appearance.
Florida Fire Frogs - PPD
Rome Braves 5, Greensboro Grasshoppers (Pirates) 3
- Trey Harris, LF: 2-3, 2B, RBI, 2 R, SB
- Braulio Vasquez, 3B: 2-4, RBI
- Logan Brown, DH: 1-4, 2B, RBI
- Alan Rangel, SP: 5 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 9 K
Alan Rangel did just enough to get the win tonight. He wasn’t great by any means, but got key outs when he needed them. The bullpen pitched four scoreless innings where Lukas Young (former Boston pick) picked up his third save.
If Trey Harris doesn’t get a promotion soon, I might just riot. He simply cannot be contained in Low-A and his average is up to .391 while also posting a 1.082 OPS. Ariel Montesino was signed back in February, but just got assigned to Rome. In his first game, he went 1-3 with a double. One of the hitters scuffling the most is Braulio Vasquez. It was nice to see him get a key hit to drive in a run. He also might be heating up as he has hit in four of his last five.
