I would venture to guess that if you ask any of the players that played for the 2021 Atlanta Braves, they would be just fine if the only title you called any of them was World Series Champion.
However, while the Braves roster and coaching staff achieved the ultimate team and individual goal in baseball last week, Sunday began a stretch of time in which several Braves could earn individual achievements for their 2021 performances.
The 2021 Gold Glove winners were announced, and Freddie Freeman, Ozzie Albies, Adam Duvall, and Max Fried were among the finalists are their respective positions. While the night belonged to the St. Louis Cardinals, who became the first team to have five different players in a single season win a Gold Glove, Duvall and Fried were named winners.
#Braves' Adam Duvall is a first-time Gold Glove winner. He's the NL Gold Glover in right field.

Max Fried is the #Braves' first multiple Gold Glove-winning pitcher since Greg Maddux. That's two in a row for Max.

Braves had four finalists this year and two winners, Fried and Duvall. Fried was their only winner in 2020, and they had none in 2019.
As David O’Brien points out, Fried has now won two in a row while Duvall finally earns his first of his career. While Freeman and Albies did not win on their end, all four of these players, plus Austin Riley, will have another chance at further accolades when the Silver Slugger award winners are announced on November 11th.
Braves News
- The other significant news of the the day for the Braves was Atlanta officially offering Freddie Freeman a qualifying offer. This move was simply procedural, as it was expected all along the Braves would tie the ability to earn a compensation pick back in return if Freeman signed elsewhere. Of course, the goal, and most likely outcome, remains to have Freeman back with the Braves long-term.
- Both Brian Snitker and Alex Anthopoulos had their end of the season press conferences on Sunday. The main points of emphasis from Anthopoulos were that Atlanta’s payroll would increase in 2022, and that the top priority is bringing back Freddie Freeman on a long-term deal.
MLB NEWS
- The Cardinals’ winners were highlighted by Nolan Arenado, who has now won nine straight Gold Gloves in the National League.
- 14 players received a qualifying offer this offseason. MLB.com looks at some of the decisions, both in terms of who received an offer and who did not.
- J.D. Martinez announced that he would remain with the Red Sox as he declined the opt-out clause in his contract.
- Other major contract news around the league included Mike Zunino having his 2022 team option picked up by the Rays while Jonny Cueto had his 2022 team option declined by the Giants (both highly expected decisions.)
