Jeremy Walker has been optioned to Gwinnett. Patrick Weigel has been promoted to Atlanta and will be available for tonight’s game in Miami.
The #Braves today recalled RHP Patrick Weigel from Triple-A Gwinnett after optioning RHP Jeremy Walker to the Stripers following last night’s game.— Atlanta Braves (@Braves) August 9, 2019
Jeremy took one for the team last night. He relieved a battered Dallas Keuchel in the fourth inning. He pitched 3 1/3 innings of decent relief, allowing five hits, no walks, and striking out two. This will likely make Walker unavailable for tonight and probably tomorrow.
Patrick Weigel will attempt to make his major league debut with the Atlanta Braves tonight! This is not his first Major League promotion, but he did not see action from July 19th to July 21st. The Braves appear to have converted him to a reliever in mid-July for the remainder of the season. This is not for ineffectiveness but to keep his innings down in his first full season since Tommy John surgery in 2017. Patrick has a 2.96 ERA/ 5.62 FIP/ 6.00 xFIP line in 51 2/3 innings in Gwinnett. Welcome Patrick!
