Atlanta Braves News
Another bullpen meltdown sent the Atlanta Braves to one of their most disappointing losses of the season. Atlanta entered the ninth with a 6-2 lead but neither Mark Melancon nor Shane Greene were able to hold it. Miami rallied for four runs in the ninth and then walked off in the 10th 7-6.
Saturday’s loss comes on the heels of manager Brian Snitker saying that he was going to use Melancon as the team’s closer at least for the time being. No word yet on whether Saturday’s loss will alter that thinking.
Nationals’ ace Max Scherzer moved a step forward in his recovery from a back issue on Saturday when he completed a mound session pain free. Scherzer has started just two games since the beginning of July and while today’s mound session was a success, there still is no timetable for when he might return to the rotation.
Tim Tebow’s season is officially over after a laceration on his left hand required stitches. Tebow was hitting .163/.240/.255 in 77 games at Triple-A.
The Cubs continue to deal with injuries in their bullpen. The team placed Steve Cishek on the injured list Saturday due to hip inflammation. The injury isn’t thought to be serious but still required him to be shut down for several days.
