Atlanta was able to pull off a convincing win last night thanks to their high octane offense along with another quality start by Julio Teheran. Tonight it will be rookie Mike Soroka’s turn which is always a treat for Braves fans to watch.
Soroka is a budding superstar on the mound for Atlanta after compiling 3.0 fWAR already this season through just 121 innings pitched. His sparkling 2.45 ERA and 3.26 FIP have him in the conversation for Rookie of the Year along with the possibility of a Cy Young award if Hyun-Jin Ryu should fall off the wagon over the final stretch. However unlikely Soroka is to garner either of those awards due to the tough competition, he has already become a household name in Atlanta and has already ascended to the title of “Ace” for this Braves rotation that desperately needed someone to step up and lead.
His opponent will be Sandy Alcantara who has really face-planted this season after starting it off well with the Marlins. His ERA is 4.50 and he owns a FIP over 5.00. The home run ball has really been an issue for Alcantara this season which is terrifying when you have to face this powerful Braves lineup.
This will be a game Atlanta is heavily favored to win, but as usual you can’t make assumptions in baseball. So, make sure to tune in for all the fun and nutty baseball that is in store this evening.
