Late homers sink Braves in 8-3 loss to Dodgers
Mike Soroka turned in another brilliant performance on the mound but Atlanta’s bullpen faltered once again in an 8-3 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Braves’ lead in the NL East is down to just 4.5 games over the Washington Nationals.
Ender Inciarte leaves game with hamstring injury
Ender Inciarte left Friday’s game in the second inning after he suffered a right hamstring strain while scoring on a run-scoring single by Matt Joyce. Inciarte was visibly upset about the injury and quickly exited up the dugout tunnel. He will undergo tests on Saturday to determine the severity of the injury.
Braves sign Adeiny Hechavarria, option Johan Camargo and Adam Duvall
The Braves made several roster moves prior to Friday’s game and were dealing with a short bench even before Inciarte’s injury. With Dansby Swanson still out due to an injured heel, Atlanta signed free agent infielder Adeiny Hechavarria to help add some depth and designated right-hander Wes Parsons to open up a spot on the 40-man roster. Atlanta also optioned struggling infielder Johan Camargo along with outfielder Adam Duvall to Gwinnett. The team also added right-hander Bryse Wilson to serve as a multi-inning relief option after Josh Tomlin was forced into early action on Thursday.
Alex Anthopoulos comments on addition of Adeiny Hechavarria
Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos met with the media prior to Friday’s game and discussed the addition of Hechavarria along with the decision to demote Camargo and Duvall to the minors.

Nats playing it safe with Scherzer
As the Nationals have closed the gap in the NL East standings, they have done so without help from ace Max Scherzer who has been dealing with back issues since the All-Star break. Scherzer announced himself ready to return after throwing a simulated game earlier this week. However, the Nationals will have him throw another simulated game on Saturday with the hopes that he will be able to return to the rotation next week.
Royals Designate Billy Hamilton
The Kansas City Royals designated outfielder Billy Hamilton for assignment on Friday and recalled outfielder Brett Phillips. Hamilton produced just a 44 wRC+ in 305 plate appearances with the Royals this season.
Fernando Tatis Jr. Expected To Miss Remainder Of Season
Padres rookie infielder Fernando Tatis Jr. was placed on the injured list Friday due to a back injury and is expected to miss the remainder of the season. Tatis Jr. put together a solid rookie season hitting .317/.379/.590 with 22 home runs to go along with 16 stolen bases.
