The Atlanta Braves will look to finish off a sweep of the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday and further increase their lead in the NL East. Atlanta took the first two games in dominating fashion winning 9-2 on Friday and 15-7 on Saturday. The Braves are 6-5 against the Phillies this season. They have scored at least nine runs in each of those six victories.
Kevin Gausman will make his second start since returning from the injured list. He turned in one of his best performances of the season in his last outing allowing five hits and one run over seven strong innings against the Washington Nationals. Gausman’s command was pinpoint in that outing and he will be looking to continue that. This will be his first time facing the Phillies this season.
Opposite Gausman will be Philadelphia right-hander Aaron Nola who is currently his best stretch of the season. Nola allowed six hits and five runs in just 4 1/3 innings against the Braves back on June 15. Since then he has allowed one earned run over less in six of his last seven starts. That includes a four-hit, eight-inning shutout performance against the Braves at SunTrust Park on July 2. He allowed four hits and one unearned run over seven innings while striking out seven in his most recent start against the Tigers.
Atlanta enters Sunday with a 6.5 game lead over the Washington Nationals and a 7.5 game edge over Philadelphia.
First pitch from Citizens Bank Park on Sunday is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. ET and the game can be seen on Fox Sports South.
