On the heels of Kevin Gausman being claimed off waivers by the Cincinnati Reds, the Atlanta Braves announced that they have recalled right-hander Mike Foltynewicz from Triple-A Gwinnett to take Gausman’s spot on the active roster.

The plan is for Foltynewicz will return to the rotation Tuesday night in Minnesota. That will push Max Fried back a day until Wednesday’s series finale.
It has been a rocky season so far for Foltynewicz who battled elbow soreness during the spring and began the season on the injured list. He returned in late April but struggled posting a 6.37 ERA while allowing 16 home runs in just 59 1/3 innings through 11 starts. He was demoted to Gwinnett in late June where he seems to have turned things around. He has a 2.67 ERA (2.60 FIP) over his last six starts and perhaps more importantly, has allowed no home runs during that span.
The Braves are hoping that this version of Foltynewicz more closely resembles the 2018 version when emerged as an All-Star and a top of the rotation candidate.
Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos discussed Folty’s return with The Athletic’s David O’Brien Monday afternoon.
Anthopoulos add: “Hopefully Folty comes up and solidifies things for us…He’s been throwing well. You don’t know how that will translate at the big-league level; we’re going to see…The hope is he’s going to be up here to stay. But things can change." (Said they'll go w/ best 25)
