The All-Star break came and went.
It was a nice break with a thrilling home run derby and some fun celebrity game moments. Now that it's behind us, we can hone back in on the games that count and see which considerations matter as the Braves move forward.
Let's take a look at some of the following points.
1. Acuña's Star Continues to Rise
Without a question, the star of Ronald Acuña Jr. is already undeniable, and only continues to grow. At the mid-point, you can make a strong argument that he has the best and most consistent bat on the team outside of Freddie Freeman. Between the two of them, the Braves have plenty of power in their lineup.
Acuña has already notched 105 hits and 21 homers, and it's clear that he's only getting better. Aside from his regular season performance, it's clear that the Venezuelan kid feels like he belongs on the big stage.
He represented himself and the team well in the home run derby, making it to the semi-finals with a combined 44 homers between the first two rounds. There's plenty of marketability to match his skills, so expect him to be a big fixture for the squad as the Braves re-emerge in America's consciousness.
2. The Pitching Rotation Has Plenty to Grow On
When it comes to making a deep playoff run, it's clear that the bullpen will need to stay strong and get some help.
Right now, Mike Soroka has been an incredibly bright spot, with a 2.42 ERA and 73 strikeouts. He's only 21 and has lots of room to grow.
Luke Jackson has also showed a ton of potential, and has currently notched a 2.66 ERA and 59 strikeouts. Keep an eye on the trade deadline to see what kind of changes, if any, the Braves make to their rotation. It's very possible that they may pick up a closer or two.
3. The Farm System is Stacked
You can definitely say that the future is bright when you take a look at the Brave's farm system. In fact, many are calling it the best farm club in baseball right now.
The Mississippi team has standouts like CJ Alexander, who many are calling the steal of the draft, and pitcher Patrick Weigel, who has experienced some ups and downs after recovering from Tommy Johns surgery. We'll definitely be keeping an eye on the Braves' farm system as the team continues to grow and fill in spots.
4. They Have to Keep Their Foot on the Neck of the NL East
Right now the Braves are 6 games in front of the Nationals, who are a half-game in front of the Phillies. The Braves will need to keep their foot on the pedal and ensure that they maintain this lead.
With plenty of head-to-head matchups scheduled before the season ends, there's a good chance it can go down to the wire. This also makes the trade deadline all the more intriguing.
Consider these tips as we move forward with plenty of Braves baseball to go.
