If you didn’t stay up late to watch the Braves on Tuesday night, you didn’t miss much. The club lost 9-0 as their misery in Dodger Stadium continued.
First, the good(ish) news: Max Fried doesn’t have a broken hand. He took a line drive off his left hand in the second inning, and after being checked out by the training staff, he left the game. X-rays were negative. He’s considered day-to-day.
And that concludes the good news.
Atlanta was shut down by Hyun Jin Ryu, who threw a complete game on 93 pitches. The Braves had four hits. Ryu did not walk a batter; he has not walked a batter in a home game since last August, a span of 62 innings. That is probably the coolest stat running in baseball right now.
As was the case in the first game of the series, the Braves hit numerous balls hard but they somehow found a Dodger glove. This play, for example, robbed Ronald Acuña of a double and RBI.

It didn’t take long for the Dodgers to get their bats going as Justin Turner hit a no-doubt homer in the first. Fried should’ve gotten out of a jam when Max Muncy grounded a ball into the shift, but Dansby Swanson misplayed it and allowed two runs to score as L.A. pushed their lead to 3-0.
Turner would plate another run in the second inning with an RBI single that saw Alex Verdugo narrowly beat an Ender Inciarte throw at the plate. Turner then hit his second homer in the fifth to extend the score to 5-0.
The Braves’ bullpen continued its strong work in relief of Fried. Josh Tomlin worked four innings of one-run ball. Grant Dayton and Dan Winkler tossed scoreless innings as well. Where things went sideways was with Jerry Blevins in the eighth, allowing a four runs to score as Turner hit his third homer of the night.
The Braves and Dodgers will mercifully wrap up their series on Wednesday night. It will be Clayton Kershaw against Mike Foltynewicz at 10:10 p.m. ET.
