Ozzie Albies, Braves slam Marlins, 9-2

Ozzie Albies hit a grand slam while Mike Soroka threw seven strong innings in a 9-2 win by the Braves over the Marlins. Ronald Acuña Jr. snapped out of his slump going 4-for-4 at the plate before leaving the game in the seventh due to back tightness. The Braves will go for a sweep on Sunday with Julio Teheran on the mound.

Braves recall Sean Newcomb, option Touki Toussaint to Triple-A

Prior to Saturday’s game, the Braves added a fresh arm to the bullpen recalling Sean Newcomb while optioning Touki Toussaint to Gwinnett.

Reds Release Matt Kemp

The Cincinnati Reds announced on Saturday that they have released outfielder Matt Kemp who was on the injured list due to a broken rib. The Reds acquired Kemp in a big trade with the Dodgers this past offseason that also included Yasiel Puig, Alex Wood and Homer Bailey.

Nationals Place Juan Soto On 10-Day IL

The Washington Nationals will be without outfielder Juan Soto for at least the next 10 days after he was placed on the injured list due to back spasms. The Nationals recalled outfielder Andrew Stevenson to take Soto’s place on the active roster.

Phillies Designate Aaron Altherr For Assignment

The Philadelphia Phillies designated outfielder Aaron Altherr for assignment on Saturday to clear a spot on the active roster for Odubel Herrera to return from the injured list.

Pirates shut down Taillon (elbow) for 4 weeks

The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed right-hander Jameson Taillon on the injured list with a right elbow flexor strain. He will be shut down for four weeks and will get a second opinion on the diagnosis. The Pirates selected the contract of left-hander Tyler Lyons to replace Taillon on the roster.

James Paxton Placed On 10-Day Injured List

The Yankees have been one of the teams hit hardest by injuries this season and that continued on Saturday when the team announced that James Paxton had been placed on the injured list due to a left knee injury. The severity of Paxton’s injury isn’t yet known. New York recalled Jake Barrett to take Paxton’s place on the roster.
