Brian Snitker discussed following Friday’s game the possibility of adding a fresh arm to the bullpen after Touki Toussaint was pressed into action after Kevin Gausman’s ejection. That will be the case as the Braves have recalled left-hander Sean Newcomb from Triple-A while optioning Toussaint.
The #Braves today recalled LHP Sean Newcomb from Triple-A Gwinnett after optioning RHP Touki Toussaint to the Stripers following last night’s game.

Toussaint allowed four hits and one run over four innings in relief of Gausman Friday night. He walked three and struck out six. Newcomb began the season in the Braves’ rotation but was demoted to Triple-A after allowing five hits and four runs in just 1 1/3 innings against the Mets back on April 13. Newcomb made three starts for Gwinnett where he allowed 13 hits and five runs over 18 2/3 innings. Perhaps more importantly for Newcomb, he walked just four batters at Triple-A while striking out 15.
The Braves also announced the reliever Jesse Biddle would begin a rehab assignment with Gwinnett tonight. He was placed on the injured list back on April 27 due to a right thigh contusion and a groin strain.
