After another disappointing one-run loss, the Atlanta Braves will try to pick up the pieces Saturday night when they continue their series against the San Francisco Giants. The Braves have now dropped three straight games and their lead in the NL East is down to just 2.0 games over the Philadelphia Phillies.

Charlie Morton will try to put an end to the losing skid when he makes his 30th start of the season Saturday. By and large, Morton has been Atlanta’s most consistent pitcher in 2021 and they will need another good performance out of him in Saturday’s game. Morton allowed six hits and three runs over seven innings in his last start against the Marlins. He has pitched at least six innings in seven of his last eight starts.

Morton will match up against a familiar face for Braves fans in left-hander Alex Wood. Wood will be activated from the COVID list on Saturday after testing positive at the end of August. He threw a simulated game on Wednesday and will likely be under a pitch count in Saturday’s game. Wood was pitching well prior to testing positive having allowed two earned runs or less in three straight starts. Wood was originally drafted by the Braves in the second round of the 2012 Draft. He was traded to the Dodgers in the failed Hector Olivera deal in July of 2015. Wood has faced the Braves six times in his career and has a 4.26 ERA in 31 2/3 innings.

Saturday’s game is scheduled to begin at 9:05 p.m. ET and can be seen on Bally Sports Southeast.
