The Braves announced on Monday afternoon that they had released lefty Robbie Erlin.
The #Braves today released LHP Robbie Erlin.

This is not a surprising move, given that Erlin has produced a wretched 8.10 ERA this season after being released from the Pirates and picked up by Atlanta. Erlin has been used to fill a rotation spot in the midst of a plethora of injuries and disappointing performances from young pitchers, but didn’t really have any success outside of his first start in Atlanta. Erlin was the target of much frustration from Braves fans as he seemed to not be able to produce any better than any of Atlanta’s young arms could, and lacked the upside of those younger arms. Erlin’s usage was also likely to his detriment. Since the Braves’ bullpen is stacked with talent and depth, they get Fried and Hamels back from the IL, and they brought back Touki Toussaint and Kyle Wright to get another chance, Erlin clearly had no place on the roster, and just wasn’t worth keeping in the 60-man pool.
