We are back with more results from our weekly SB Nation Reacts survey. This week’s questions centered on the negotiations surrounding a potential 2020 season and thoughts on MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred.
The first question asked whether you would feel comfortable as a player starting the MLB season. Sixty-four percent of voters answered yes but as we will get to in a moment, that feels a little disingenuous. Some players have shown apprehension about the league’s proposed health and safety protocols and the union answered back with a proposal of its own later this week. There is still a lot of questions that need to be answered so it is understandable that some players are hesitant. I get it, fans are ready for the sport to return and it is easy to vote Yes when you are sitting at home on the couch.
While 64 percent of our voters said yes they would be comfortable as a player starting the season, 58 percent of the same voting base answered no that they would not feel comfortable attending a game this year as a fan. I probably don’t need to point out the contradiction here so I will move on.
The next question asked whether or not they think that Rob Manfred has Baseball’s best interests at heart. This just confirms what we have suspected with just 39 percent of voters answering yes. This week we have seen some players like Tampa’s Blake Snell draw criticism for voicing their concerns over negotiations for the 2020 season. I just wonder if the 61 percent that voted no on this question recognize that Manfred is representing the owners.
I have to admit that the results of this question surprised me. Sixty percent of voters answered that Manfred is a worse commissioner than Bud Selig, who wasn’t exactly popular during his time as commissioner.
The final question asked whether you trust Manfred with 61 percent of the vote answering no. One thing is clear, Rob Manfred and the league have some work to do.
That is it for this week. Let us know what you think in the comments below. If you want to take part in future SB Nation Reacts surveys, then head over to this link and get signed up.
