Good evening all. This is your Talking Chop open thread for Monday. You are free to discuss (just about) anything in any thread. But I will ask a question of the day. Are we carrying the designated hitter into the National League in 2021?
I’m not crazy about having the designated hitter in the National League. But there are certain advantages to having it. We would not have it suffer through watching pitchers hit, though I would lose my bathroom break. One advantage is that we could prolong their careers of the Braves’ stars. Chipper Jones was still productive during his last year. We could extend Freddie Freeman’s Braves lifespan as well. The lack of DH could have played a role in Josh Donaldson moving on as well, but I think the price tag was the prohibitive factor in this case.
You would lose some strategic elements of the game. The good news is that Brian Snitker is the one making those decisions for the Braves and those would be removed.
Happy Monday, all!
