Braves extend division lead to 6.5 games with blowout win over Phillies

The Atlanta Braves homered four times including a grand slam by Ozzie Albies to help clinch a series win in Philadelphia with a 15-7 romp over the Phillies. The Braves built a 14-1 lead before cruising home for the win. Atlanta now owns a 6.5 game lead over the Nationals and a 7.5 advantage over the Phillies in the NL East standings.

Braves’ Nick Markakis likely out 6-8 weeks because of fractured wrist

As expected, the news on injured outfielder Nick Markakis was not good. Markakis suffered a fractured wrist after he was hit by a pitch in Friday’s game. He is expected to be out 6-8 weeks with the injury with a return in mid-September looking like the best case scenario.

Braves optimistic Dansby Swanson’s time on IL will be short

The Braves also placed shortstop Dansby Swanson on the injured list retroactive to July 24. They are hoping that he will be ready to return when eligible on August 3. Swanson apparently suffered the injury in Tuesday’s game against the Royals. He sat out Wednesday and Friday’s series opener in Philly before going on the injured list Saturday.

Dansby Swanson and Nick Markakis placed on IL as Braves activate Max Fried, recall Adam Duvall

With Swanson and Markakis both injured, Atlanta activated Max Fried from the injured list and recalled outfielder Adam Duvall from Gwinnett. Both Fried and Duvall played a big part in Atlanta’s win over the Phillies Saturday.

Reinvented Adam Duvall returns to Braves with better sense of self

Duvall has spent the entire season at Triple-A where he rediscovered his power stroke laughing 29 homers before his promotion. He struggled after being traded to Atlanta last season and hopes his time in the minors has allowed him to rediscover the player he was in Cincinnati.

Blue Jays Have Talked with Braves, Scouted Atlanta Affiliates in Recent Days, Per Report

Another team that has reportedly been scouting Atlanta minor league affiliates is the Toronto Blue Jays. While Marcus Stroman seems like a good fit, MLB Network’s Jon Morosi reports that the Braves are seeking a reliever and perhaps another versatile position player. Toronto’s Ken Giles and Eric Sogard could fit the bill.
