The Atlanta Braves will return to action Friday evening when they begin a road trip with a three-game set in San Diego against the Padres. The Braves enter the second half with a 54-37 record and a six game lead over the Washington Nationals. The Padres are 45-45 and 14 games back of the Dodgers in the NL West but are just two games back for the second wild card. The Braves and Padres split a four-game series earlier this season in Atlanta.
Dallas Keuchel will be on the mound for the Braves to start the second half and is coming off of a pair of strong outings. Keuchel allowed five hits and two runs over 7 1/3 innings in his last start against the Marlins. He has allowed a total of 10 hits and four runs over his last two starts. Without possessing overwhelming stuff, Keuchel had been successful locating his pitches and producing weak contact. He is incorporating his cutter more recently and looks to have shaken off the rust after sitting out most of the first half. This will be Keuchel’s first start against the Padres since the 2015 season.
San Diego will counter with left-hander Dinelson Lamet who will be making his second start since missing all of the 2018 season due to Tommy John surgery. Lamet touched 99 mph with his fastball in his first start where he allowed three hits, three runs and struck out seven over five innings against the Dodgers. Lamet faced the Braves once back in 2017 where he threw seven shutout innings allowing four hits while striking out eight.
First pitch is scheduled for 10:10 p.m. ET and can be seen on Fox Sports South.
