Braves bullpen blows it again in 3-2 loss
Bullpen issues plagued the Braves again Thursday when they saw a late lead slip away again in a 3-2 loss in 10 innings to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Mike Soroka turned in another good performance and Josh Donaldson homered but Atlanta has now lost four straight.
Max Fried on track to start Sunday’s game in Arizona
A little bit of good news while in the midst of a four-game skid. Max Fried felt good while completing his side session on Thursday and is on track to make his scheduled start in Sunday’s series finale in Arizona. Fried was hit in the hand by a line drive earlier this week.

A major league scout runs down the positives and negatives for each team in the NL East through the middle of May. The scout had good things to say about Atlanta’s lineup but pointed to the pitching staff as cause for concern and the problem isn’t just with the relievers.
“The pitching staff needs to get healthy. There’s understandably been a lot of heat on the bullpen, but the rotation needs something beyond the young guys [Max Fried and Mike Soroka]. The young guys in the ‘pen have never proven themselves, and they don’t need a closer -- I liked what I saw from [A.J.] Minter last year. But throwing strikes is more important than having stuff when you’re closing.”

The New York Mets placed left-hander Steven Matz on the 10-day injured list Thursday and recalled first baseman Dominic Smith. Matz’s stay on the injured list is expected to be short as he is still scheduled to start next Thursday.
