Bullpen troubles plagued the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday evening, leading to a frustrating loss at the hands of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Less than 24 hours later, the two teams will square off again on Wednesday evening, with Brian Snitker’s club aiming to even the series with a victory.
Kevin Gausman takes the ball for Atlanta and, like the team, he will be looking for a personal bounce-back. The veteran right-hander struggled against the New York Mets in his last outing, allowing four runs (and seven base-runners) in 5.2 innings of work, and it will be interesting to see how Gausman fares in what will be his third start of the still-young season.
In opposition, the Diamondbacks will send 28-year-old right-hander Zack Godley to the mound and, in short, he has scuffled to this point in the season. While Godley does have one solid start (a win over Boston) on his profile this season, the overall results are ugly, with a 7.41 ERA in 17 innings of work. Godley enjoyed a tremendous performance during the 2017 season (3.37 ERA in 155 innings) but, since then, he has cooled considerably, leaving the Braves with an opportunity to dent the scoreboard in this particular spot.
The good folks in Las Vegas install the Braves as favorites to get a victory on Wednesday, with the number sitting in the range of -155 at the time of this post. At the very least, that goes to show what the expectations are for the home team and, on the heels of Tuesday evening, it would be encouraging to see a strong effort from Atlanta.
Stay tuned throughout the day (and evening) for all the latest.
