Darren O’Day not any closer to return
While A.J. Minter, Kevin Gausman and Mike Foltynewicz are all progressing in their returns from various injuries, reliever Darren O’Day is not close to a return. Brian Snitker told the AJC’s Gabe Burns that O’Day is playing catch but is not far enough along to set a timetable for his return.
“He’s just playing catch,” manager Brian Snitker said. “It’s way too far out to know (what he’s doing when). But it’s been positive for him.”
McCann eager for Atlanta homecoming
Brian McCann is excited to be back where it all began after signing a one-year deal to return to the Braves. McCann recently talked about his decision to come home and how he is looking forward to his first regular season game at SunTrust Park with MLB.com’s Mark Bowman.
“I’ve been thinking about it since I signed back,” McCann said. “It’s going to be a big moment for me. The [Braves] organization means everything to me.”

Red Sox Close To Extension With Xander Bogaerts
The Boston Red Sox and shortstop Xander Bogaerts are working towards an agreement on a contract extension. ESPN.com’s Jeff Passan reports that the deal is for seven years and is worth $132 million including his $12 million salary for 2019. The contract also reportedly includes a vesting option for the 2026 season and has an opt-out clause after 2022.
Teams are circling on Keuchel and Kimbrel; the Padres are determined to add a starter
The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports that several teams continue to check on free agent pitchers Dallas Keuchel and Craig Kimbrel. The Padres are thought to be interested in Keuchel but to this point have been resistant to meeting his demands.
