The Atlanta Braves announced their rotation plans for their season opening series in Philadelphia on Sunday. The team had previously announced that Julio Teheran will make his sixth-straight Opening Day start. Rookies Bryse Wilson and Kyle Wright will follow Teheran in the series.

Wilson completed an impressive spring allowing 12 hits and just five runs in 13 2/3 innings. Wilson made his major league debut in a start up in Pittsburgh last season to go along with two other relief appearances.

Kyle Wright was the story of the spring for the Braves early on before getting knocked around in his final spring start. Wright’s numbers are skewed given that he allowed six in two-thirds of an inning in his last start against Tampa but struck out 18 in just 12 2/3 innings. Wright saw some action out of the bullpen late in 2018 getting into four games. His first major league start will take place on a National stage on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball.

That means that Sean Newcomb will start the home opener against the Cubs on April 1 with Julio Teheran scheduled to start the second game of the series on April 3 thanks to an off day. MLB.com’s Mark Bowman says that Max Fried is lining up to pitch the series finale against the Chicago on April 4.
