With the 2018 season now in the books for the Atlanta Braves the focus shifts towards the offseason. The Braves will have a number of decisions to make in regards to their roster but one current player is hoping that he fits into their plans for 2019.
Kurt Suzuki told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Gabe Burns that he is interested in staying in Atlanta.
“We’ll see if I’m in their plans,” he said. “If I am in their plans, hopefully they make something happen.”
The Braves already reached an extension with Tyler Flowers for next season. The combination of Suzuki and Flowers has been a productive one for the Braves. Suzuki has appeared in 186 games for the Braves over the past two seasons hitting .276/.341/.485 with 37 doubles and 31 home runs. However, he is about to turn 35 and catcher is a position that the team may look to get younger at for 2019.
Still Suzuki’s tenure in Atlanta has been nothing but success. If the Braves can’t make a splash addition at the catcher position then perhaps they can revisit Suzuki and run the combination back for at least one more season.
