Austin Riley’s stock is on the rise and quickly emerging as one of the best third base prospects in the game. MLB Pipeline rates Riley sixth on their 2018 list of Top 10 third baseman.
Toronto third base prospect Vladimir Guerrero Jr. tops the list and is followed by Cincinnati prospect Nick Senzel. The Yankees’ Miguel Andujar, Boston’s Michael Chavis and Tampa Bay’s Christian Arroyo round out the Top 5.
Riley has always been popular among Braves prospect experts but started to gain national recognition after a strong second half showing. After hitting .252 with 12 home runs in 81 games at High-A Florida, the Braves promoted Riley to Double-A Mississippi. There he tore up Southern League pitching to the tune of a .315 average to go along with eight home runs and a .900 OPS over the final 48 games.
Riley was also among the group of players that the Braves sent to take part in the Arizona Fall League. He excelled there as well putting up a .300/.364/657 line to go along with five doubles and six home runs in 17 games.
