Brian Snitker shared some significant updates in his pregame media availability, which Mark Bowman of mlb.com shared.
The update everyone in the Braves realm had been waiting on was about the injury status of Ozzie Albies, after he had to be carried off the field last night due to fouling a ball off of his upper knee. After it was announced last night that Albies’ x-rays were negative, Snitker shared today that there was optimism about Ozzie. Albies is apparently feeling better than the Braves staff expected on the day after the injury and could be available to play as soon as Thursday.
Snit said Albies is feeling a lot better than they expected he would today. Sounds like there's at least a chance Ozzie could play as early as tomorrow.— Mark Bowman (@mlbbowman) September 2, 2021
Snitker also shared an update on the rotation plans after Drew Smyly had yet another rough outing on Tuesday. Touki Toussaint will start on Thursday, as Toussaint has finally strung together some success in the majors. There were some questions about whether we would see Touki starting again this season after Ian Anderson and Huascar Ynoa came back from injury and Touki made an appearance out of the bullpen. It appears, however, that Smyly may now be the one losing his rotation spot, as Snitker not only confirmed that he won’t be used this weekend when he would be scheduled to start, but also that he wasn’t sure how the team would use Smyly for the rest of the season.
Toussaint will start tomorrow. Smyly won't start during this weekend's series in Colorado. Snit said he is not sure how Smyly will be used going forward.— Mark Bowman (@mlbbowman) September 2, 2021
