It has been a busy day with mock drafts with both Keith Law from the Athletic mocking Spencer Schwellenbach to the Braves and old friend Kiley McDaniel releasing ESPN’s mock draft which has the Braves taking Michael McGreevy. As we count down the hours until the draft starts on Monday, one thing is certain: the Braves are looking hard at college starting pitchers.
Not to be clear, they seems to be poking around at college bats as well with guys like Trey Sweeney, Connor Norby, Ethan Wilson, and Tyler Black seemingly on their radar, but the vast majority of the buzz has been regarding college pitchers in this draft. In the latest Baseball America mock draft, a familiar name popped up to the Braves.
BA’s latest projection has the Braves taking RHP Gavin Williams out of East Carolina University. Williams is a name that has been mocked to the Braves previously, so I won’t go too much into detail on him here, but suffice it to say that if you read the draft roundtable article that we posted earlier today, Gavin would be a popular pick around these parts.
Old friend and Talking Chop alum Carlos Collazo does go on to say that there still seems to be a lot of names in play for the Braves at pick 24 including familiar ones like Ky Bush, Spencer Schwellenbach, Ryan Cusick, Tommy Mace, and Michael McGreevy, so its far from set in stone as to who the Braves prefer. Carlos also mentions some bats that are in play like Trey Sweeney and Connor Norby, but it does seem like college arms are connected to them the most.
