The #Braves today reinstated LHP Max Fried from the 10-day injured list and optioned LHP Sean Newcomb to Triple-A Gwinnett.— Atlanta Braves (@Braves) June 30, 2021
The Braves placed Fried on the injured list on June 22 retroactively to June 29 due to a blister on his left index finger. The team said that Fried dealt with the blister during his start on June 18 against the Cardinals when he allowed just two hits and one run over seven strong innings. The hope was that he would be ready to return as soon as he was eligible and that turned out to be the case.
Newcomb has been plagued by control issues for most of the season. He has made 23 appearances out of Atlanta’s bullpen and has walked 19 batters in 21 2/3 innings. He is averaging over 12 strikeouts per nine innings but the walks have been more than he has been able to overcome.
