The Atlanta Braves added another fresh arm to the bullpen prior to Wednesday’s matchup against the Toronto Blue Jays. The team placed Grant Dayton on the 10-day injured list with inflammation in his left thigh and recalled left-hander Sean Newcomb. Dayton’s placement is retroactive to May 9.
The #Braves today placed LHP Grant Dayton on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 9, with left thigh inflammation and recalled LHP Sean Newcomb to Atlanta.— Atlanta Braves (@Braves) May 12, 2021
Newcomb pitched well initially out of the bullpen allowing just one run over his first five appearances. After a stint on the COVID injured list, Newcomb returned and was hit hard allowing five hits and five runs in just one inning across two appearances before he was optioned to Gwinnett. He seemed to regain his footing while with the Stripers tossing a pair of scoreless innings while striking out five of the six batters he faced. His return will give the Braves another multi-inning option out of the bullpen.
Dayton appeared in nine games with the Braves before the injury where he allowed nine hits and five runs in nine innings.
