Braves spring training game against Rays gets rained out

If the sky looked like it did in the accompanying photo, we would be watching the Braves playing baseball against the Rays right now. Instead, it’s raining and there’s no baseball.

Any time you see the tarp go on the field for a spring training game, you have to assume that there’s a very good chance that it’s going to result in a rain out. Sure enough, the tarp was on the diamond at Charlotte Sports Park in Port Charlotte, Florida about an hour before the first pitch was set to be thrown in order to get the game going between the Braves and the Rays. However, there was a slight chance that this game was going to be played and the Braves did indeed make the short trip from their spring training facility to the Rays’ facility for the game to be played. Additionally, there was a 30-minute rain delay scheduled, so there was some hope that we would see these two teams play today.

Unfortunately, the clouds decided that we were not going to see these teams play today.

We’ll see how this affects the pitching rotation going forward. We were scheduled to see Charlie Morton take the mound today, with Ian Anderson getting the ball for Sunday. I’d assume that they’ll just push things back a day and give Morton the start on Sunday, but it’s also spring training and they could just decide to go with Anderson anyways. Either way, there’s a very tiny bit of flux when it comes to the pitching but it’s easy to see the Braves coming up with a simple solution by the time tomorrow’s game rolls around.

The Braves are scheduled to play the Red Sox at CoolToday Park in North Port at around 1:05 Eastern time tomorrow. Hopefully it’s a nice and sunny day so that the Braves can get some work in after today’s wash-out.
