We are back with another week of results from our SB Nation Reacts survey. This week’s questions centered on the labor dispute between the league and the players and the results are honestly somewhat confusing.
Let’s get to the big one first, 66% of voters say they are on the players’ side in the labor dispute. Honestly, everyone should be on the players’ side on this one. The league has raked in record profits recently and the players have offered a fair proposal that would allow the league to recoup lost money for the 2020 season in future seasons.
Here is my first surprise although it is hardly a majority. Sixty-six percent of voters are on the side of players but 28% think they should take a 40% cut? That doesn’t really add up to me. Worth noting that half of the voters selected a 20 or 30% pay cut for the players which seems much more reasonable given the situation.
Another head scratching result as over 40% of voters responded that neither side is being unreasonable. More than 30% voted that ownership was being unreasonable while just over 20% thinks the players should suck it up and take whatever the league gives them.
The other big question in this week’s survey asked will baseball still start in early July. Some optimism still remains as 58% of the voters answered yes. I can’t argue this result as I think they will find some sort of deal but things may be pushed right to the brink to make it happen.
Our last question centered on how many weeks of spring training will the players need to get ready? Personally I think a month would be appropriate but that isn’t likely going to be an option. Three weeks is probably more reasonable but about 45% of our voters think that two weeks will suffice.
That is it for this week. Let us know what you think in the comments below. If you want to take part in future SB Nation Reacts surveys, then head over to this link and get signed up.
