Major League Baseball is eyeing June 10 as the date for the 2020 MLB Draft according to a report by MLB Network’s Jon Heyman and later confirmed by the NY Post’s Joel Sherman. The draft will be held virtually but we still don’t know how many rounds it will be. Somewhere between 5-10 is expected.
2 sources confirm that MLB is closing in on making June 10 draft day as @JonHeyman reported. What is still not finalized is if the draft will be 5 or 10 rounds.— Joel Sherman (@Joelsherman1) April 28, 2020
The 2020 MLB Draft had been scheduled to be held on June 10-12 but it can likely be completed in one sitting in a virtual environment. The league could always add a second day if needed.
The league and the Player’s Association reached an agreement back in March giving the Commissioner the ability to postpone the draft to July and to shorten it from 40 rounds to as little as five. The general consensus has been for several weeks now that the draft will be somewhere between 5-10 rounds.
