The biggest news from around Major League Baseball centered on the blockbuster trade between the Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins involving Mookie Betts could be in jeopardy. Reports surfaced on Saturday that the Twins’ involvement in the deal is no longer certain. Minnesota was to receive right-hander Kenta Maeda from the Dodgers in the deal while sending right-handed prospect Brusdar Graterol to the Red Sox. Boston however, reportedly balked after seeing Graterol’s medical history and had questions about his long-term role.
Boston reportedly asked for another prospect from the Twins but talks have stalled. MLB Network’s Jon Heyman reported on Saturday that Minnesota was willing to include a top-20 prospect to finish the deal but that wasn’t enough to satisfy Boston. If Minnesota backs out of the deal then the thinking is that LA and Boston will try to complete the deal themselves but there doesn’t appear to be a fast timeline for a resolution.
