News and notes from Braves camp on Thursday.

The Atlanta Braves completed their first spring workout with pitchers and catchers on Thursday as the team begins its preparations for the 2020 season. While their wasn’t any big news to come out of the first workout, there was some encouraging news on a couple of players who are competing for a roster spot.

Jacob Webb made an impact in the Braves’ bullpen early on in the 2019 season before an elbow injury forced the team to shut him down late in the season. He has apparently put that injury behind him as MLB.com’s Mark Bowman reports that Webb is in camp and is throwing without any restrictions.

If Webb can get through camp healthy, then he may have an inside track to claiming one of the final spots in the bullpen.

Veteran right-hander Felix Hernandez also spoke with the media on Thursday and told reporters that he is healthy, is a bit lighter and is ready to go compete for a roster sport.

“I’m just glad to be here,” Hernández said. “It’s a great team, a great organization and a great group of guys. My mindset is I’m healthy. I’m just going to go out there and compete against anybody.”

Brian Snitker discussed Thursday’s workout, Felix Hernandez and if he is concerned about the team’s starting depth.
