Fried’s rough outing sinks Braves

Max Fried was tagged for 11 hits and five runs in a 5-4 loss to the Miami Marlins. Ronald Acuña Jr. hit his 21st homer to lead off the game while Austin Riley added his 16th in the second inning to stake the Braves to an early lead. However, Atlanta was held scoreless from the fourth inning on by Marlins pitching. The rubber match of the series is set for Sunday.

Braves set rotation for first two series after All-Star break

The Atlanta Braves have set their pitching plans for the first two series following the All-Star break. Dallas Keuchel will start Friday’s series opener in San Diego and will be followed by Julio Teheran and Mike Soroka. Max Fried, Bryse Wilson and Keuchel will follow in Milwaukee.

Yankees right-hander Masahiro Tanaka has been named to the AL All-Star team as an injury replacement for Toronto’s Marcus Stroman who is dealing with a pectoral injury. Additionally, Pirates closer Felipe Vazquez and Brewers righty Brandon Woodruff were added to the NL squad replacing Zack Greinke and Josh Hader.

Nationals, Anthony Rendon Discussing Extension

The Nationals are reportedly in discussion with third baseman Anthony Rendon on an extension that would keep him in Washington for the foreseeable future. Nationals owner Ted Lerner and Scott Boras are reportedly in negotiations.
