Throughout the Braves’ fan base, everyone has been wondering what the Braves were going to do at the trade deadline. Most everyone agreed that if they did make a move, a move to bolster the bullpen was the most likely course. There is also a fair bit of speculation surrounding the Braves acquiring another starter as well as potentially some help in the outfield.
Well, one of the dominoes fell on Tuesday as the Braves did, in fact, make a move for a reliever in a deal with the Texas Rangers.

In Martin, the Braves are getting an older reliever who is having a really strong season thus far. In 38 innings this season so far, Martin has posted 1.5 rWAR with a 3.08 ERA with 43 strikeouts against just four walks on the season which should make Braves fans happy. The righty has consistently posted FIPs right in line with his ERA during his career, so he seems to be a steady hand in the bullpen which the Braves sorely need.
As for Allard, his path to the rotation in Atlanta was always going to be tough. He has had a pretty good season in Gwinnett (4.17 ERA), but has clearly been passed on the depth chart by several other pitching prospects in recent years due to his stuff just not developing at the rate that was projected for him. By all accounts, he is a stand-up guy and we wish him nothing but the best.
