Kevin Gausman dominates as Braves down Nationals 7-1
Kevin Gausman turned in his best performance of the season while Josh Donaldson and Ronald Acuña Jr. both homered two help the Atlanta Braves to a 7-1 win over the Nationals Sunday night. The Braves push their lead in the NL East back to 6.5 games. They will enjoy an off day on Monday before opening a two-game series against the Kansas City Royals.
Braves plan to keep Sean Newcomb in bullpen
Brian Snitker told reporters on Sunday that the team currently has no plans to use Sean Newcomb as a starter. Newcomb has excelled out of the bullpen posting a 1.53 ERA in 25 appearances.
“I think he’ll stay right there where he’s at,” Snitker said before Sunday’s series-finale against the Nationals. “Late-inning guy who can go two innings. When he throws like (Saturday, when he pitched two scoreless innings), he’s not a matchup guy either. He still has the ability to (start), but I don’t know that we’ll intentionally go out and try to stretch him out. What we need him to do is what he did (Saturday).”

Hall opens its doors for unforgettable ‘19 Class
The 2019 Hall of Fame Class was officially enshrined in a ceremony in Cooperstown NY on Sunday. Six players were inducted including Yankees closer Mariano Rivera who was the first player to be unanimously elected by the BBWAA. Also inducted was the late Roy Halladay, Edgar Martinez, Mike Mussina, Lee Smith and Harold Baines.
Rays place Kiermaier on IL with sprained thumb
The Tampa Bay Rays placed outfielder Kevin Kiermaier on the injured list Sunday with a sprained thumb. Kiermaier underwent an MRI exam which revealed no ligament damage and he is hoping that he will be ready to return in about two weeks.
The Los Angeles Angels requested unconditional release waivers on pitcher Matt Harvey. Harvey was designated for assignment on Friday after posting a 7.09 ERA in 12 starts.
