The Braves will have two participants in the 2019 Futures Game during the All-Star festivities

While most eyes will be on the MLB All-Star Game during the midsummer break, but there is more to the All-Star festivities then just the one game. In addition to fun exhibitions like the Home Run Derby, the MiLB Futures Game will also be held which is sort of like a minor league All-Star game although there isn’t a vote or anything of that nature.

In previous years, the rosters were split up into US and World rosters which was fun to a certain extent, but it also created some funky roster selections (or non-selections) at times. This year, they are mirroring the MLB All-Star Game a bit more closely and as it turns out, we are going to see some Braves prospects in action.

Cristian Pache has been widely lauded for the progress he has made this year, particularly at the plate, and that progress has been rewarded with a Futures Game selection. In addition to being a defensive wiz who should compete for Gold Gloves in the outfield, Pache has been excellent at the plate in Double-A with a .295/.352/.516 line in 72 games with 10 home runs (which is already a career high for him). He has seen noticeable upticks in his power as well as his walk rate this season and seems to be on the fast track now towards the major leagues.

Ian Anderson, also on Double-A Mississippi’s roster, was the Braves’ top draft pick back in 2016 and has rewarded the Braves’ selection of him by turning into one of the top pitching prospects in all of baseball. The 21 year old right-hander has posted a 3.20 ERA in 15 starts this season while striking out 99 batters in 78.2 IP this season (which leads the Southern League).
