Key hit proves elusive as Braves fall 4-3 to Nats in Keuchel’s 2019 debut

Dallas Keuchel made his Atlanta debut but the Braves came up just short in a 4-3 loss to the Washington Nationals. Atlanta put two runners on in the ninth but Dansby Swanson flew out to a sliding Victor Robles to end it.

Josh Donaldson wins appeal, won’t serve 1-game suspension, per report

One thing the Braves won’t have to worry about on their road trip is Josh Donaldson sitting out a game due to a suspension. ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported on Friday that Donaldson won his appeal and won’t serve the one-game suspension that he was issued following a benches clearing incident against the Pirates earlier this month. Per Passan, Donaldson also had his fine reduced to $1,000.

The Braves have seven players named as 2019 All Star finalists

The Atlanta Braves are tied for the Major League lead with seven All-Star voting finalists. First round voting results were announced on Friday with Freddie Freeman, Josh Donaldson, Ozzie Albies, Dansby Swanson, Ronald Acuña Jr., Nick Markakis and Brian McCann moving on to the second round. Second round voting will determine the All-Star starters which will be announced on Sunday, June 30.

Miami also placed Rule 5 pick Riley Farrell on outright waivers. If Farrell clears waivers he will be offered back to the Astros.

A’s Montas gets 80-game suspension for PEDs

Oakland A’s right-hander Frankie Montas was handed an 80-game suspension on Friday after he tested positive for a performance enhancing substance. Montas had pitched well for the A’s this season posting a 2.70 ERA and 2.9 fWAR in 15 starts.

Rangers’ Cabrera to appeal 4-game suspension

Rangers third baseman Asdrubal Cabrera will appeal a four-game suspension that he was given on Friday by Major League Baseball. Cabrera was ejected in Thursday’s game against Cleveland after he tossed his batting gloves and hit umpire Bill Miller in the foot following a strikeout.
