Julio Teheran struggled as the Atlanta Braves fell behind early in a 10-2 loss to the New York Mets and Jacob deGrom.
Sean Newcomb remains out after he was struck in the head by a line drive during Saturday’s game. Brian Snitker told the AJC’s Stan Awtrey on Tuesday that Newcomb wasn’t available to pitch Tuesday and isn’t likely to pitch Wednesday. However, it sounds like he could be back in the bullpen in time for this weekend’s series against Washington.
Kevin Gausman is set to begin a rehab assignment in the minors. Gausman is currently on the injured list due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot. The AJC’s Stan Awtrey reports that the organization is still viewing Gausman as a starting pitcher and he will work as such throughout his rehab stint.
Angels shortstop Andrelton Simmons began a rehab assignment on Tuesday. He has been on the injured list since May 20 due to an ankle injury.
The Mets have shut down injured outfielder Brandon Nimmo from all baseball related activities for the next month. Nimmo has been dealing with a bulging disc in his neck and has been on the injured list since May 21. New York also placed reliever Jeurys Familia on the injured list due to a shoulder injury.
The Chicago White Sox plan to extend protective netting to both foul poles according to a report by ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
Former Red Sox slugger David Ortiz remains in the hospital in Boston but has been upgraded from “stable” to “good” condition. Ortiz was shot in while visiting the Dominican Republic back on June 9. So far authorities have detained 11 people in the case.
