With the Braves unexpectedly shorthanded due to injures to Tyler Flowers and Brian McCann, Alex Jackson will make his major league debut at catcher today. While the circumstances are not ideal, there should be excitement to finally see what Jackson can do in the majors. While his stay is likely to be short, Jackson has big time power that could be on display today and to start the week in Denver.
Beyond Jackson’s debut, Johan Camargo’s crash course in Outfield 101 continues as well. With lefty Caleb Smith on the mound, Brian Snitker decided to go with a right-handed heavy lineup. As a result, Camargo will get the start in right, while Nick Markakis will not be in the Braves starting lineup for the first time since September 9th, 2017. Ender Inciarte getting the start in center should help make it less of an adventure for Camargo.

A familiar face will be making his series debut for the Marlins. Martin Prado will get the start at first base and bat second for Miami. Former Braves Manager Fredi Gonzalez and Prado recently visited with Braves Hall of Famer Bobby Cox, who is still recovering in the hospital from a stroke. Just as Cox’s reaction showed Prado is a favorite former player of the legendary manager, many Braves fans agree Prado remains a fan favorite from his days in Atlanta.
Fredi Gonzalez said Bobby Cox lit up when Martin Prado walked in the hospital room today. Prado said he was happy to have had the chance to briefly visit with his former manager, who remains hospitalized while recovering from a stroke. https://t.co/ejCCG6FvGL

Just as the Braves are doing against Smith, the Marlins are going with a right-handed heavy lineup against Sean Newcomb. If Newcomb can harness his control, his natural stuff can find success against Miami.

Hopefully, the Braves will get the offense going early and often to get the win!
