Braves win fourth straight as Gausman shuts down Marlins
Kevin Gausman was stellar in his return to the Braves rotation allowing just two hits and two walks over seven scoreless innings in a 4-0 Atlanta win. Ronald Acuña Jr. and Tyler Flowers both homered to provide all the run support Gausman would need. Since dropping three straight in Philadelphia, Atlanta has now won four straight.
Getting to know the Marlins with Ely Sussman of Fish Stripes
The Miami Marlins are in the second year of their rebuild. We checked on their progress with Fish Stripes manager Ely Sussman prior to Friday’s series opener.
Max Fried turned in a spectacular performance Thursday night allowing just one hit over six shutout innings. Perhaps more impressively for Fried is that he did not walk a single batter in the game. If he can continue to cut down on his walks then he will be ready to take the next step and become a fixture in Atlanta’s rotation.
Fried has shown his versatility so far this season making a pair of relief appearances prior to Thursday’s start. However, he will be sticking in the rotation for the time being as Brian Snitker confirmed that he would make his next turn.
Mike Foltynewicz to make second rehab start Tuesday
Mike Foltynewicz looked good in a rehab start at Gwinnett on Thursday and is scheduled to make another on Tuesday. The Braves are looking for Foltynewicz to throw near 100 pitches in his next outing before rejoining the major league rotation.

Orioles sign Dan Straily to major-league contract
The Baltimore Orioles and right-hander Dan Straily have an agreement on a one-year deal. Straily was released by the Marlins at the end of spring training but should be able to help Baltimore’s pitching staff.
Rangers Place Edinson Volquez On 10-Day IL With Elbow Sprain
The Texas Rangers placed right-hander Edinson Volquez on the 10-day injured list Friday due to a sprained elbow. Volquez missed all of the 2018 season after undergoing his second Tommy John procedure. Kyle Bird was recalled from Triple-A to take his place on the active roster.
The New York Yankees are dealing with an early rash of injuries and have signed veteran infielder Cliff Pennington to a minor league deal to provide some depth.
Former Braves outfielder Michael Reed cleared waivers and was outrighted by the San Francisco Giants to Triple-A. Reed will have the option of accepting the assignment or electing to become a free agent which would allow him to look for another opportunity. Reed was a part of San Francisco’s Opening Day roster but went 0-for-8 in four games.
