Gausman pitched well for the Braves down the stretch last season but was slowed this spring by a sore shoulder that caused him to begin the season on the injured list. He made 10 starts for the Braves down the stretch last season posting a 2.87 ERA (3.78 FIP) in 59 2/3 innings. Gausman got off to a rough start during the spring but turned in a good showing in his final spring training start and has been ramping up his activity while looking healthy.
Carle got off to a strong start in Atlanta in 2018 but struggled down the stretch. He has appeared in three games this season allowing three hits and five earned runs in just 3 2/3 innings.
