Mariners put closer Strickland (lat strain) on IL

Mariners’ closer Hunter Strickland allowed a game-winning three-run home run to Mitch Moreland on Friday night and then was placed on the injured list Saturday due to a right lat strain. Seattle called up right-hander David McKay to take Strickland’s place on the roster.

Cubs, Dixon Machado Agree To Minor League Contract

The Cubs and free agent infielder Dixon Machado have an agreement on a minor-league deal. Machado spent last season in Detroit but struggled at the plate. He was released by the Marlins earlier this week and will report to the Cubs’ Triple-A affiliate in Iowa.
